This recipe is perfect when you are looking for a soul warming, hearty chili for your belly. The ground turkey lends to a lighter version of a typical ground beef chili. How to make the best homemade turkey chili

STEP 1: Start by preparing your veggies. Dice your Onion and Bell Pepper.

STEP 2: Heat a large pot to medium heat. Add oil, onions, and bell peppers, sauté for 5 minutes or until the veggies are softened. Add in the ground turkey and cook until browned and cooked most of the way through about 7 minutes.

STEP 3: Add in the spices (Smoked Paprika (Paprika, Chili Powder, Cumin Powder or Seeds, Cayenne Powder, Garlic Powder, Onion Powder, Salt, and Pepper) Stir and cook for 1 minute. Add in the Soy Sauce and Canned tomatoes (which can be pureed for a smoother consistency or kept as is for a chunkier texture). If needed add a 1/4 cup to a 1/2 cup of water or broth. Bring the chili to a boil, turn down the heat to medium low, cover and simmer for 1 1/2 hours.

STEP 4: After 1 1/2 hours stir in the canned beans cover and cook for another 30 minutes. Remove from the heat and serve immediately. Topping suggestions include cheese, sour cream, steamed rice, tortilla chips, avocado, hot sauce, raw chopped onions, and herbs. Enjoy!

notes for success

The longer you cook the chili the more time the flavors will develop. Cooking the chili for less than an hour will still taste good of course but letting the chili cook longer will further develop the flavors deeper. Add water or broth to the chili a little bit at a time, you can always add more. This recipe is very customizable, feel free to choose your favorite beans, and veggies.

storage

You can store your homemade turkey chili in a sealed airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 5 days.
