Apple and Black Berry Walnut Crisp

My apple and blackberry walnut crisp is the most simple but tasty apple dessert. The apples are tender and sweet and the walnut crumble topping adds a nice crunch. The prep is really quick and easy.

Ingredients

Apple and Blackberry Filling

  • 4 Honey Crisp Apples, Thinly Sliced
  • 1 cup Blackberries
  • 1 tbsp Maple Syrup
  • ½ tsp Cinnamon

Walnut Crisp Topping

  • ½ cup Melted Butter (Salted)
  • ½ cup Chopped Walnuts
  • ½ cup Brown Sugar
  • ¼ cup White Sugar
  • ½ cup Flour
  • ½ cup Rolled Oats
  • ½ tsp Cinnamon
  • ½ tsp Salt

Instructions

  • Preheat your oven to 375 degrees F. Prepare your crumbled topping by melting 1/2 cup of butter in a medium heat proof bowl. Then add 1/2 cup Chopped Walnuts, 1/2 cup Brown Sugar, 1/4 cup White Sugar, 1/2 cup Flour, 1/2 cup Rolled Oats, 1/2 tsp Salt, and 1/2 tsp Cinnamon to the butter and mix until combined.
  • Prepare your fruit filling by adding the 4 thinly sliced honey crisp apples, 1 cup of blackberries, 1 tbsp maple syrup, and 1/2 tsp cinnamon to a bowl or baking dish and mix well to combine. Add apple filling to a buttered baking dish and spread evenly. Then top the apples with the crisp topping and spread out evenly.
  • Pop the dish into a preheated oven for 40 minutes. The filling should be bubbly, and the top should be slightly browned. Let the crisp cool for at least 15 minutes and enjoy!

Notes

Feel free to use whatever apples you prefer. Honey Crisp apples are sweet and crispy, so they are typically the ones I choose. You can also interchange the blackberries for another berry, like blueberry or raspberry. I used an 8x8 baking dish, which gave me a thicker filling and topping, but you can also use a 9x9 baking dish or 9x13, which will spread the filling and topping out a little bit thinner.
