Get your ripe nectarines ready for this super simple and delicious nectarine almond crisp. The crumble on top is perfectly sweet and crunchy and melts into the fresh nectarines. This dessert takes almost zero effort and is nearly impossible to mess up.
The SIMPLEST dessert
Besides making the crumble to go on top and slicing the nectarines, crisps are the simplest desserts. They are a fantastic way to let the fruit you are featuring really shine. Enter nectarines, an underrated summer fruit if you ask me. They don’t seem to get recognition like peaches do but they are just as sweet and juicy.
lightly sweetend
I really wanted to let the nectarines have center stage and utilize their natural sweetness. So, all we add is a little bit of honey and a splash of almond extract (if you don’t have almond extract vanilla extract works great) and we are set. The crumble is a simple mixture of flour, sugar, oats, and slivered almonds. We add some very cold butter. I like to freeze the butter for 30 minutes or longer then use a cheese grater to create fine shreds of frozen butter. This makes the butter incorporate better and leaves you with smaller chunks.

how to make the nectarine almond crisp step by step
STEP 1: Freeze butter for 30 minutes. Preheat the oven to 375 degrees F. While the butter is freezing, prepare your dry ingredients. Combine flour, brown sugar, white sugar, oats, salt, and slivered almonds in a medium bowl. Mix well.
STEP 2: Prepare your fruit filling. Slice the nectarines into thin slices. Add the nectarines to a separate medium size bowl with the honey and almond or vanilla extract and mix well.
STEP 3: Using a cheese grater carefully grate the butter into the dry ingredients. Once the butter is grated, give the mixture a stir. You may need to use your hands to combine by rubbing the mixture in between your fingers until it resembles a very coarse sand, clumps are okay.
STEP 4: In a 9×11 baking dish add the nectarines and spread into an even layer. Add the crumble to the top and spread it into an even layer. Pop the dish into a preheated oven for 45 minutes. The filling should be bubbly, and the top should be slightly browned. Let the crisp cool for at least 15 minutes and enjoy!
notes for success
If you like a sweeter fruit crisp you can add white or brown sugar to your nectarines. Use almond extract or vanilla extract, whichever you have on hand. I recommend letting the crisp cool down for at least 15 minutes, before digging in. You can serve your nectarine almond crisp with whipped cream or vanilla ice cream.
storage
You can cover your nectarine almond crisp and leave it at room temperature for up to two days. You can refrigerate the crisp for up to five days.
