Avocado and Cilantro Hummus

Jump to Recipe Print Recipe
avocado cilantro hummus

This avocado and cilantro hummus is everything, creamy avocado, the freshness of cilantro. The recipe is super easy and much better than store bought. You can add this hummus to a wrap or eat it with pita bread. The perfect dip to keep on hand.

simple ingredients

Just a few simple ingredients make up this avocado and cilantro hummus, it packs so much flavor in every bite. The flavor is similar to guacamole, just much creamier. The hummus is already super smooth but if you want it even smoother you can remove the outer shells off each chickpea. You simply peel the shell by rubbing each chickpea between your fingers. It is a tedious task but if you’re up for the challenge, then go for it.

how to make avocado cilantro hummus step by step

STEP 1: Prep your avocado by slicing down the center lengthwise and carefully remove the pit.

STEP 2: Add the avocado, cilantro, canned chickpeas, tahini, lemon, cayenne powder, ground cumin, olive oil and a few ice cubes to a food processor or blender. Blend on high until smooth for about 3 minutes.

STEP 3: Transfer the hummus to a bowl and enjoy with warmed pita bread, or veggies.

notes for success

3 minutes may seem like a long time, but it is key to getting a super smooth hummus. Let the food processer do its work. Adding ice cubes is optional but it will keep the avocado hummus nice and creamy. Removing the outer skin of the chickpeas is also optional but will help give a smoother texture. Sometimes I remove the skin, sometimes I don’t, it just depends on how ambitious I am feeling that day.

storage

You can store your avocado cilantro hummus in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 4 days.
